A returning client from Erie, Pa asked if we could install some upfitter switches on a new 2020 Silverado 2500. But, GM has changed their Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra body styles. So, the 2019 and 2018 older body style upfitter switches will not work. What are upfitter switches? These are aux switches that allow the owner of a pickup truck to hook up additional electrical items. These could be work lights, back-up lights, warning lights, fuel transfer pumps, winches, etc.
The 9L7 upfitter switch option made perfect sense on this new truck. This option allows for an organized clean look! However this GM option is not just a aux switch panel. In order to make the upfitter feature fully functional we need more parts. A replacement knee bolster, with a “cut out” for the switch assembly, an electrical center/harness combination, an electrical power harness, and a fuse kit are just some other parts needed.
Upfitter Switches Installed
MECP certified Ken Whiteman performed the upfitter aux switch installation. Ken says, “Taking apart the dash is rather involved.” So, if you’re one of those guys that tends to break plastic panels…you might want to sit this one out!
Do you have a new body style GMC Sierra or the Chevrolet Silverado? If so, we can add extra electrical items with a nice clean look and it will be done safely. Just like Chevy and GMC intended! We are a shop located in Northwest, Pa near the shores of Lake Erie. So, be sure to contact us if you would like to improve your truck’s electrical system! (We don’t ship parts)
