Charlie of North East, Pa is a longtime customer of ENORMIS. In fact, we have worked on many of his vehicles over the years. Charlie stopped in to talk with our Tony Horton. That’s because he needed his opinion on a new 2019 F-150 he was looking into buying. This particular 2019 F-150 is an XLT model and doesn’t come with a few features Charlie wanted. So, He and Tony discussed the possibility of upgrading the seats from cloth to leather and adding a remote start.
Can Cloth Seats in a Vehicle be Changed to leather?
Tony assured him that factory cloth seats, on most modern vehicles, can be upgraded to leather. As long as the factory fabric is not adhered to the seat cushion, converting to leather is not an issue. So, Together he and Tony looked over some color options. Charlie really likes the look of these black leather seats with medium red accents and stitching. They are just what he is looking for! Leather kits are made-to-order for a particular vehicle and trim. In order to complete the leather installation, the seats are completely removed from the vehicle. Then, the cloth is detached and removed from the frame and cushion. Finally the cloth is replaced with the leather seat covers.
Heated Seats Also get Added to 2019 F-150 XLT
Tony brought up something that Charlie hadn’t really thought about. Leather seats can feel very cold when sat on in the wintertime! So, Tony asked him if he had ever considered adding heated seats. Now would be the perfect time to do it! That’s because, the heated seat elements could be added underneath the new leather. That would give him warmth in the winter . Not only that, but he would get therapeutic relief and comfort in the summer! In fact, Charlie hadn’t considered adding heated seats before, but now he thought that was a great idea!
Addition of a Ford Vehicle-Specific Remote Start
Charlie does a lot of traveling for both his job and family. Because of that, he wanted a remote start with longer range to it. He had heard about cell-phone based remote starts, but wasn’t sure if one was right for him. So, Tony showed him some options and recommended a bundle to him. Our Factory Start v6x with Drone Smartphone App uses vehicle-specific harnesses and software to connect with the 2019 F-150. That means no cut wires and no voiding his factory Ford warranty. The Drone Smartphone based remote start will allow Charlie to start, lock, and unlock the vehicle from wherever his busy life takes him. ENORMIS takes remote starts very seriously and this job was no exception.
Charlie did mention that cellular reception wasn’t very strong at his house. So, Tony recommended adding our optional 1/2 mile 2-way 2-way remote kit. This remote kit could be used in poor cellular areas and still give long range operation with confirmation. That means, he will know if truck is running even when he can’t see it! 2019 F-150 is Dropped Off for a 2 day MECP Installation Appointment
All of the final decisions were made. Tony ordered the custom leather kit and made the appointment for installation. Tony prepared him to leave the vehicle with us for 2 full days. That’s because a large job such as this takes time, and ENORMIS does not “rush” jobs. We care about the final results! It also means, a large job like this needs more “hands on deck”.
So, two of our MECP certified technicians, Art and Kenny, were assigned the installation. Their plan for the 1st day was to get the seats removed, the factory cloth removed, and then getting the heated seat elements and leather installed. That way, this would allow the leather to settle on the cushions overnight. We wanted it to look the very best when completed. On day two, the seats would be returned to the vehicle, the heated seat controls put into position, and the remote start installed. The plan worked very well.
One More Request; Can we program Turn Signal Flash Length?
Charlie was very excited to see the results of his F-150 project! But, there had been one more request from him. Charlie noticed that the Ford “lane-change” turn signal only flashes 3 times when used. So, he asked Tony if this could be increased to 5 flashes. That’s because he was wanting to give more warning to other drivers when changing lanes. Our service manager Mike, using his Ford computer, was able to make that change for Charlie! Sometimes it’s the little touches that can make a client happy.
On vehicle pickup, Tony went over the F-150. Tony showed Charlie everything that had been done. They went over the operation of the heated seats, and by the way, Charlie thought the switch positions were perfect. They also went over the remote start operation so Charlie was comfortable using it. The leather looked fantastic! The two-tone color and custom stitching really set the interior off. In fact, It was just as he imagined it. Tony said: It’s a great feeling to see a large project through the customer’s eyes, and make their dreams become a reality!
