Erie Client Gets Ford Transit Safety Lighting Upgrades

Ford Transit Safety LightingA local nursing center recently contacted ENORMIS Mobile Specialties to install a Ford Transit safety lighting system. The fleet manager at this assisted living facility is a volunteer firefighter, and we installed emergency lighting on his vehicle a while back. When they needed lighting for their fleet of mobility vehicles, he didn’t hesitate to contact us. This is the eighth lighting project we have completed for this facility.

Ford Transit Safety Lighting System Design

The project started with Mike Macaluso consulting with the client to confirm the specific needs of the vehicle. The van is used to transport their clients to and from the hospital and to various appointments. They wanted a lighting system that would make the Transit visible to the other drivers on the road. With a plan in place, Mike contacted our commercial safety lighting supplier and ordered five sets of custom-built LED warning lights for the vehicle.

The rear taillight housings were modified to accommodate the LED lights.

Once the lights arrived, we tasked Ken Whiteman, one of our MECP certified technicians, with the installation. Ken started by installing a set of amber light heads on either side of the front grille to catch the attention of oncoming drivers. Next were a set of surface-mount warning lights on the side of the van, just forward of the rear wheels.

Up next were a set of amber LED beacons in the factory tail light lenses. Ken removed the light assembly and modified the reflector to accept the new lights. The reflector dramatically increases the visibility of these already-intense LED lights.

Our lighting upgrades on the back of this van greatly enhance its safety.

This van is equipped with a rear entry wheelchair lift from AbiliTrax. As such, the rear doors of the van are often open for loading and unloading clients. Mike and Ken designed a unique lighting solution that locates four surface-mount LED’s on the edges of the doors, so they are visible when open. Two lights are mounted at the top of the van to ensure they are never blocked by the operator or the lift and two are mounted above the door release latch.

The lighting system is controlled by a single switch on the dash. Ken configured the lights on the rear doors to light up only when the rear doors are open to prevent them from being a distraction to the occupants when someone is using the side or front doors.

Erie’s Lighting Installation Experts

It took Ken one day to complete this Ford Transit safety lighting system installation. The client was thrilled with the work ENORMIS Mobile Specialties performed. If you are in the Erie area and need safety or emergency lighting for your vehicle, drop by our store, give us a call or send an e-mail. We’d be happy to help!
