Eddy, a South East Erie resident, was looking to upgrade his Pro-Line 26 Super Sport fishing boat. Eddy wanted to upgrade his command console and audio system. The center console once housed an antiquated Garmin mapping system and less-than-desirable audio system. Eddy did his research and decided that the Raymarine Axiom 12 system was the right one for him. The Axiom 12 system features a 12-inch multifunction all-glass display, advanced GPS mapping, autopilot, 3D real-time sonar fish finder, weather radar and Wi-Fi. Eddy elected for a two-monitor system with two 12-inch displays, Raymarine Auto Pilot, Raymarine VHF Seatalk Radio, and a small CD player and two-speaker system in the overhead storage compartments. Eddy stopped by the store in February and spoke with our innovation specialist, Doug Reichert, about the upgrade.
We tasked MECP-certified technician and fellow boat owner Ken Whiteman with this installation. Ken begin with the external Sonar transducer and running the cable in the hull. From there, he performed the tedious task of interfacing the four Raymarine pieces with each other, using the Raynet ethernet, NMEA2000 and Seatalk connections. Ken created a “command center” in the electrical panel from which the cabling would run to the individual Raymarine pieces. Once he had run all the cabling and wiring throughout the boat, Ken installed the auto pilot, VHF radio, speakers and CD player.
Ken put the finishing touches on the installation with a thorough sealing of exposed joints and holes. When Eddy came to pick up the boat, Ken went over placement of all the upgrades with him. Eddy was ecstatic at the look of his two-command center displays. Happy boating, Eddy!
