The Top Remote Starter Myths Dispelled

Remote Starter Myths

Remote starters are one of the most popular product categories at Enormis Mobile Specialties –and one of the most misunderstood. Many of the myths about remote starters come from a bad experience, or simply bad information received from someone you know. In this article, we will dispel the most common remote starter myths.

A Remote Starter Will Void The Warranty On My New Vehicle

Remote Starter MythsThis is the most common question we get, and the short answer is no, it will not void your warranty. In 1974, Congress passed the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act to address the issue of new car dealers telling their customers they would lose their warranties if aftermarket products were installed in their vehicles. Here is a link to the FTC’s article on this subject; http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0138-auto-warranties-routine-maintenance
Do be aware that, if you have substandard products and/or labor done on your vehicle that causes damage, your warranty may be suspect. That should never happen at Enormis Mobile Specialties.  ENORMIS uses the finest remote start  products and our MECP certified technicians are the finest in the area.

I Don’t Need Much Range, Since I Only Start My Vehicle At Home

We know, you park right outside your kitchen window! We can tell you from firsthand experience that once you go out to a warm vehicle one time, you will be hooked. You will never want to go out to a cold vehicle or scrape ice off the windows again. Do you work in downtown Erie or Jamestown? Do you work at St. Vincent or Hamot Hospital? how about Erie Insurance? Places like work, church, the mall and out to dinner are all popular destinations in your average week. Consider where your vehicle will be parked over an average week, and buy enough range to start it from all of those places.

One of the Biggest Remote Starter Myths: Anyone Can Install One

This one really saddens us. As this technology gets more and more popular, more and more people tell us a buddy or their mechanic can do it for them. 20 years ago? Sure! The reality is that installing a remote starter is major surgery on your electrical system. You want an expert performing your installation so you know it will be done right the first time. After all,  you rely on that vehicle everyday.

You Can’t Get A Remote Start On A Manual Transmission

Remote Starter MythsYes, you can. Enormis can safely install a system in your manual transmission vehicle. We have systems specifically designed to work on manual transmission vehicles that will protect you from them ever starting while in gear. Ask any of our team members for more information.

Remote Starters Are Bad For Your Vehicle

This is simply not When you start your engine and allow it to warm up before driving away, you are actually helping your vehicle. When it is cold outside, the oil in your engine gets thicker. Remote starting your vehicle allows the engine to get up to operating temperature before you start your journey. Your car also burns more gas when the engine is cold. Studies have proven that a car will pollute less if it’s allowed a few extra minutes to warm up.

It Makes My Vehicle Easier To Steal

No way, nada, not happening. A remote starter installed by Enormis does not defeat any of the theft protection devices in your vehicle. In fact, if someone does try to steal it, our system will down shut the engine. If someone plans on stealing your vehicle, the remote starter will not make it any easier.

Push-To-Start Vehicles Can’t Be Remote Started

Remote Starter MythsYes, they can. Our team of installation specialists knows the difference between a Toyota Camry that starts with a key or one that starts by pushing a button. We can safely and securely remote start your vehicle. No problem here.

Diesel Engines Can’t Be Remote Started

Remote Starter MythsEnormis has been remote starting diesels for well over a decade, and it is a great addition to your vehicle. If you own a diesel, you know it takes longer to warm up than a gas model, so remote starting it is a good idea every day of the year. Stop by our store and one of our team members will show you models that will work with your diesel engine.

We hope we’ve dispelled any of the rumors that may have you second-guessing about a remote starter. We invite you to stop by Enormis Mobile Specialties with your vehicle. One of our award-winning team members will work one on one with you to design and install the system that best fits your needs.
